With 12 years’ experience as a Consultant Cardiologist & Electrophysiologist (an expert in heart rhythm disorders) in London teaching hospitals (including at the largest arrhythmia centre in Europe) and 9 years as a medico-legal expert, Dr Segal combines knowledge and breadth of experience based on high case volumes and procedural technologies to produce objective, incisive reports on a range of electrophysiological / heart rhythm related injuries from life-threatening to minor, from complications of catheter ablation and pacemakers, to atrial fibrillation to anti-arrhythmic drugs, Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome to lead fracture, and cardiac rhythm device system infection to left atrial appendage occlusion devices.

I work in the NHS at Barts Heart Centre, St. Bartholomew’s Hospital as well as University College London Hospital and in the private sector at The Harley Street clinic. I was appointed as an NHS Consultant in 2008, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and of the Heart Rhythm Society (USA) in 2013.

Expertise

I offer a sub-specialist cardiac electrophysiology expert witness opinion and reports, for both claimant and defence, within my areas of expertise. 

My experience since 2009 includes provision of reports to many solicitors, the ABMU Health Board, Wales, a London Borough Council and the MedicalDefence Union. The majority of my instructions are in relation to clinical negligence. I do not routinely accept criminal cases although I frequently offer pro-bono advice. Reports can usually be provided within 1-2 months. 

I am available to discuss potential instructions free of charge prior to any formal commitment. I have undertaken training as an expert witness with Specialist Info in 2020, Inspire MediLaw in 2019 and am a member of the Federation of Forensic and Expert Witnesses, the UK Register of Expert Witnesses and the National Expert Witness Agency.
